Elementary Restructuring

The Board of Education unanimously approved to restructure our elementary schools effective for the 2012-13 school year. This decision was reached after holding 12 parent meetings this fall to help select the best option to save $400,000 annually, address declining elementary enrollment and continue providing an "Excellent with Distinction" education. We are grateful to all of the parents and staff who voiced their opinions and helped make the following decision:

Intermediate School – Salt Creek – Grades 5-6

Elementary Schools – Laurelville – Grades PreK-4

                                Pickaway – Grades K-4

                                Washington – Grades K-4

Students assigned to Grades K-4 who would have attended Salt Creek will be divided among the three elementary schools.

Many of the details of the restructuring will be planned in the next few months. These issues with expected completion and notification dates are:

* Staff Assignments February 1
* Program Changes March 1
* Elementary attendance boundaries and student school assignments   April 1
* School starting and ending times April 1
* Bus schedules May 1
* Open houses May & August
* School begins August 21, 2012

LOGAN ELM DISTRICT AND SCHOOLS ACHIEVE HIGH RATINGS

The official 2011 Report Card from the Ohio Department of Education shows that Logan Elm School District has achieved the highest rating available from the State, being identified as a district that is “Excellent with Distinction.”  Joining the district with the same “Excellent with Distinction” designation on its 2011 Report Card is Laurelville Elementary School.

All schools performed very well, meeting almost all of the indicators that represent tested subject areas, attendance, and graduation.  When the first report cards were issued in 1998, Logan Elm District was designated as “Academic Watch,” and since that time has continued to show improvement.  This year’s results show strong performance in reading and math across all grade levels which have been focus areas in the District’s Continuous Improvement Plan.  Logan Elm High School, Laurelville Elementary School, and Pickaway Elementary School met all indicators.

 The improvement is the result of combined efforts by teachers, students, administrators, staff, and families to achieve excellence.  We will continue to strive for more improvement this year.

Letter from the Superintendent

Dear Logan Elm Family,
