FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Logan Elm Local Board of Education is conducting a search for its next superintendent.  The new superintendent will replace Mr. C. Asa Bradbury who has served as superintendent since January 1, 2005, and is retiring effective August 1, 2008.

Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) is assisting the Board with its search.  OSBA has conducted over 700 searches for school district executive positions.  The Board is confident OSBA will help them find the best candidate for the job.

The Board of Education met with Ohio School Boards Association on April 10th to review superintendent applications and select candidates for the first round of interviews.  Focus group feedback was heavily considered in this screening process.  The Board has chosen to interview the following five individuals:

Mrs. Jan Broughton, current superintendent, Portsmouth City Schools
Dr. Michael Bruning, current principal, Canal Winchester Middle School
Dr. Timm Mackley, former superintendent, Peters Township (PA) Schools
Mr. Troy Thacker, current superintendent, Frontier Local Schools
Mr. David Watson, current superintendent, Napoleon Area City Schools

Based on the first round of interviews, the Board will select finalists for a second round of interviews.  Staff representatives will be invited to participate in the second round of interviews.  The Board will also complete personal reference checks on each candidate and may choose to conduct site visits.

The Board is pleased with the progress of the search and the quality of the candidates.  They remain on schedule to name their next superintendent by the first part of May.

Focus groups were held March 19th to obtain input on the development of a profile for our next superintendent. Dozens of staff members and community members attended and provided valuable feedback. Many more people that could not attend submitted helpful comments in writing. The focus was on the following three areas:

1. Major issues facing the school district over the next 3 to 5 years
2. Performance expectations for the next superintendent
3. Personal and professional qualities to be sought in the next superintendent

All comments were compiled and are posted below. The Board of Education thanks all those that contributed to this important part of the search process.
