Superintendent’s Report

 

         A.     Educational Report – Sandy Elsea, Principal, Washington Elementary and Marcia Smith, 5th grade teacher reported on the 5th-6th grade trip to Exchange City.

         Minutes - Regular Meeting - February 10, 2003                                               

 

The financial reports, reconciliations, and investments as presented.

 

Accepting the following donations:

 

-     Two (2) metal benches from LEHS metals students to Laurelville Elementary

-     $50 from Hummel & Plum Insurance Agency, Inc. to the Football Activity Account

-          $100 from The Citizens Bank to the Football Activity Account

-          $25 from Salt Creek Valley Bank to the Football Activity Account

-          $940 from Logan Elm Athletic Boosters to the Takedown Club

-          $500 from Logan Elm Athletic Boosters to the Boy’s Basketball Activity Account

 

         Deleting cash register #4044 from inventory.

 

Authorizing payment for the following order placed without certificate of the fiscal officer:

                     Kathryn Beich - $1,160.00

 

The appropriation amendments as presented.

 

Accepting the tax rates for the 2003 calendar year as certified by the County Budget Commission:

The 2003-04 calendar as presented. (copy enclosed)

 

         Resolving to continue in the cooperative agreement with the Pickaway County Juvenile Court and the other county schools to operate the Pickaway Alternative School for Success.

 

 

The following changes in the 2002-03 school calendar:

1.                  Schedule March 21 as a makeup day of instruction and permit each building to reschedule the ½ day parent teacher conference for another evening as it fits their schedule.

2.                  Approve a 1 hour early release for students on scheduled makeup day, May 26, 2003, (Memorial Day holiday) to permit students to participate in family holiday activities if this day remains necessary

3.                  Amend the end of the 3rd nine weeks grading period to April 11, 2003 and grade card distribution to April 17, 2003 to account for missed calamity days and makeup days.

 

         A resolution of congratulations for the following coaches and teams who were crowned league and/or tournament champions during the winter athletic season:

                        J.V. Boys’ Basketball (MSL regular season co-champions)               Sky Brusco

                        8th Grade Boys’ Basketball (MSL regular season champions)             Tom Congrove

Competition Cheerleaders – (Americheer National Qualifier

              and 1st place winner in several regional competitions)           Holly Minor

         Renewing their membership in the Education Tax Policy Institute for 2003.

 

Declaring the purchase of a modular building for classrooms on the Logan Elm complex an “urgent necessity”, dispense with the usual procedures for advertising and competitive bidding and approve the purchase of a modular building from Modular Building Consultants at a price not to exceed $70,000.

 

The amended Appendix H, Evaluation of Teaching Personnel, effective for 2003-04 school year, in the Master Agreement between the Logan Elm Classroom Teachers Association and the Logan Elm Board of Education, July 1, 2002 – June 30, 2005 as presented.

 

            Selecting Karlsberger/M-Engineering, Inc. as the architect/engineer for the Federal Emergency Repair Program for boiler replacement and temperature control upgrades at Pickaway Elementary School and enter into an official letter of intent for their services.

 

         Employing the following personnel on new administrative contracts effective August 1, 2003:

                           Kyle Wolfe                High School Principal                260 days          2 years

                           Marsha Waidelich      Asst. High School Principal       210 days          2 years

                           Dan Bise                   Athletic Director                       210 days          3 years

 

Tony Crist as a volunteer assistant baseball coach for the 2003 season.

 

Employing Mike White as a classified substitute for the 2002-03 school year to be used on an as needed basis.

 

Held

Executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel employment and to hear a parent concern.
